About this Recipe

This simple, sophisticated, traditional cocktail can be made with Bourbon or Rye whiskey. Rye makes it a little sweeter. To pump it up a bit, try adding a bar spoon of an orange liqueur; we like Cointreau for that!

Any good Bourbon or Rye will make an excellent cocktail. We like Four Roses Single, Michters, Jefferson Ocean for Bourbons and Michters, George Dickel, or, for a very special cocktail, Angel’s Envy for the Ryes.

  • 0.5 Tsp of sugar
  • 1 Tsp of water
  • 3 dashes of Bitters
  • 2.5 ozs of good Bourbon or Rye
  • 1 Tsp of Orange Liqueur (optional)
  • Orange peel for garnish.

Step 1

Add the sugar, bitters, and water into a Rocks Glass and stir/muddle until the sugar is mostly dissolved.

Step 2

Add large ice cubes to the glass and pour in the spirit(s).

Step 3

Gently stir until combined.

Step 4

Twist an orange peel over the glass and drop in. Cheers!
